What in the world is happening to our world?
I’m stressed and just on the edge of anger about the recent sex scandals in our nation. “Americans remain far more likely to say the state of moral values in the U.S. is getting worse (73 percent) than to say it is getting better (20 percent). Over a 15-year trend, solid majorities have consistently viewed the direction of the country’s values negatively,” writes Justin McCarthy, a Gallup analyst. Currently, 84 percent of Republicans and 61 percent of Democrats agree that moral standards are in decline.” –Jennifer Harper - The Washington Times - Thursday, May 26, 2016. That was 1½ years ago. I wonder what today’s figures would be?
Sex scandals, real or alleged, are shaking up our nation. Recently some of the biggest names in media, movies, and politics have been identified as sexual abusers or sexual harassers. Some, like Matt Lauer came into many of your homes every morning. Or long-time CBS newsman, Charlie Rose, fired after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct. Sen. Al Franken, (D-MN) writer, comedian, and politician, a media favorite, accused of sexual misconduct. Some have been in the political spotlight for many years like John Conyers (D-MI). Or a favorite commentator of Conservatives, Bill O’Reilly went from the number one spot on cable TV, to being fired for sexual related allegations. That’s enough to help us understand that sexual misconduct is running rampant in our nation.
But what really stresses me is the fact that we support this behavior. We watch sex in the movies and on television. Pornography is easily available to everyone, even the children. Not only that but, our government supports the cover-up of sexual misconduct. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-California) claims $15million in taxpayer money has been used to settle sexual harassment claims against members of Congress in the past 10 to 15 years. That’s our money folks! Congressmen and their staffs accused of inappropriate sexual behavior have had access to a “shush fund” to pay-off their accusers since 1995, managed by the “Office of Compliance,” created by the “Congressional Accountability Act.”
It is appalling that Media moguls, popular newscasters and movie stars are caught in sexual misbehavior. It is stressing that sex is so easily available in our world, but for our elected officials to not only do this, but then take our hard-earned tax dollars to cover it up.
AMERICA IS IN DIRE NEED OF AN OLD-FASHIONED, HEAVEN-SENT REVIVAL, WHEN GOD TOUCHES DOWN TO PURIFY HIS CHURCH, SO IT WILL HAVE A GREATER IMPACT ON OUR SOCIETY!
“Oh, that You would burst from the heavens and come down!
How the mountains would quake in Your presence!
As fire causes wood to burn and water to boil,
Your coming would make the nations tremble.
Then your enemies would learn the reason for your fame!
When you came down long ago” (Isaiah 64:1-3 NLT).
