“Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

God's coming judgment on false teachers:

Verse 14a: “Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam…”

Enoch was the seventh from Adam: Adam, Seth, Enosh, Cainan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch. When Enoch was 365 years old, he went for a walk one day and just kept on walking, because God took him! “Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him” (Genesis 5:24).

Enoch’s prophecy:

“Enoch…prophesied about these men…” Jude quotes from the pseudepigrapha, apocryphal Book of Enoch.

The Book of Enoch is pseudepigraphal: “The pseudepigrapha are the books that attempt to imitate Scripture but that were written under false names. The term pseudepigrapha comes from the Greek pseudo, meaning “false,” and epigraphein, meaning “to inscribe,” thus, “to write falsely.” The pseudepigraphical books were written anywhere from 200 BC to AD 300. They are spurious works written by unknown authors who attempted to gain a readership by tacking on the name of a famous biblical character. Obviously, a book called the “Testament of Abraham” has a better chance of being read than the “Counterfeit Testament of an Unknown Author.” –gotquestions.org

Here is the original quotation from that book:

“And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
to execute judgment upon all,
And to destroy all the ungodly:
And to convict all flesh
Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him”
(The Book of Enoch, chapter 1).

But his use of this extra-biblical Jewish writing does not signify he considered the Book of Enoch to be equal with the authoritative Word of God, nor that he accepted all of its content.

“The Book of Enoch, which was known to the fathers of the second century, was lost for some centuries with the exception of a few fragments, and was found entire in a copy of the Ethiopic Bible, in 1773, by Bruce. It became known to modern students through a translation from this into English by Archbishop Lawrence, in 1821. It was probably written in Hebrew. It consists of revelations purporting to have been given to Enoch and Noah, and its object is to vindicate the ways of divine providence, to set forth the retribution reserved for sinners, angelic or human, and to repeat in every form the great principle that the world—natural, moral, and spiritual—is under the immediate government of God.” –preceptaustin.org

It is notable that Jude's quotation from Enoch was the chief reason for the Book of Jude’s rejection from the Canon of Scripture for a many years. However, by the 4th century A.D., Jude’s letter had been fully accepted by the entire church.

No matter from where this prophecy came, the same Holy Spirit that spoke to Enoch inspired Jude to include it. If he received it by tradition, it is here made authentic and included in the Canon of Scripture.

Verse 14b: “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints…” “Listen! The Lord is coming with countless thousands of his holy ones…” (NLT).

“Behold,” “pay attention, listen up!” Spurgeon says that “Behold is a word of wonder; it is intended to excite admiration. Wherever you see it hung out in Scripture, it is like an ancient sign-board, signifying that there are rich wares within…drawing attention to something particularly worthy of observation.”

“The Lord comes…” Of course this is referring to Jesus Christ!

“For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory and majesty of His Father with His angels, and then He will repay each one in accordance with what he has done” (Matthew 16:27 AMP).

“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Matthew 24:30,31).

“With ten thousands …” “The Lord is coming with millions of his holy ones” (TLB) “Countless thousands of his holy ones” (NLT). Literally, many thousands, myriads. This is an uncertain number, I only know that in Numbers 19:35, The Angel of the Lord went through the Assyrian camp and 185,000 died, so this number coming with the Lord is greater than 185,000.

“Of His saints…” His holy ones.” It is not certain to whom he is referring here. It may be the saints and angels who will accompany our Lord when He returns for the final battle, “The armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses…” (Revelation 19:14).

Verse 15: The Ungodly Words and Works of the Apostates:

“To execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

Verse 15a: “To execute judgment on all…” Not only will this future judgment be personal, but it will be universal, upon all who are not safe in Christ. Just as the Flood destroyed all who were outside the ark…The Ark is a picture of Christ.

2 Peter 2:5,6, “And did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly.”

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9, “When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.”

God is not coming to destroy the earth, but to execute judgment on “Those who do not know God…and those who do not obey the Gospel” (1 Thessalonians 1:8).

1 Corinthians 15:24,25, “Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.”

Verse 15b: “To convict…” To expose, reprove, bring to shame or disgrace. Jesus will rebuke these apostates in such a way that they would be compelled to see and to admit the error of their ways. The apostates and all the ungodly will have one Righteous Judge, Jesus Christ, but no jury.

Psalm 7:11, “God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day.”

John 5:22;27. “For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son…and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.”

1 Timothy 4:1, “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at[a] His appearing and His kingdom.”

Verse 15c: “Ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way…”

The word “ungodly” occurs four times in this one verse. The word “all” indicates the universality of judgment on all ungodly.

“This (ungodly) speaks of these apostates’ utter disregard for God and His holy Word, their gross irreverence and inveterate impiety being manifest by their sacrilegious words and works. Their impious deeds are the product of their distorted view of God. "They are devoid of any restraining reverence toward God.” –Hiebert

The word “ungodly” is not a synonym for immorality. Religious people may be moral but not godly. Many nice, religious people are without God—at least, without the true God. Every action that proceeds from an unholy, unrepentant heart is an ungodly deed.

2 Timothy 3:1-5, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

Malachi 3:13,14, “Your words have been harsh against Me,” says the Lord, Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against You?’ You have said, ‘It is useless to serve God; what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked as mourners before the Lord of hosts?’”

How has this apostasy affected the world? False teachers have made the church impotent! It seems the church no longer charges the ”gates of hell.” She is content to whimper along until Jesus comes.

Matthew 16:18, “On this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” “All the powers of hell will not conquer it” (NLT),

Speaking of the ”Last days” Matthew writes:

Matthew 24:11,12 “Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.”

The spirit of Jezebel:

We hear a lot about the Spirit Jezebel in the church today. What is it? There was in the church at Thyatira a woman teacher leading God’s people into error. Ray Stedman writes:

“Evidently there was in the church at Thyatira a woman who was a very dominant leader. Jesus names her “Jezebel.” That was not her name, of course, but our Lord always names people according to their character…Here he chooses the name of the most evil woman in the Old Testament. But the trouble with Jezebel is that she was a false prophet. Our Lord points out what her teaching was. She taught that it was all right for Christians to indulge in sexual immorality and idolatry.”–Ray Stedman

Here is that account in Revelation 2:20-23, from The Message:

“But why do you let that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet mislead my dear servants into Cross-denying, self-indulging religion? I gave her a chance to change her ways, but she has no intention of giving up a career in the god-business. I’m about to lay her low, along with her partners, as they play their sex-and-religion games. The bastard offspring of their idol-whoring I’ll kill. Then every church will know that appearances don’t impress me. I x-ray every motive and make sure you get what’s coming to you. The rest of you Thyatirans, who have nothing to do with this outrage, who scorn this playing around with the Devil that gets paraded as profundity, be assured I’ll not make life any harder for you than it already is. Hold on to the truth you have until I get there.”

The “Spirit of Jezebel” is the spirit of rebellion, the spirit of control, the spirit of manipulation, and the spirit of immorality. All of those illicit influences are in the church today! And it equates with apostasy. To understand the spirit, we must understand the genesis of this personality in the Bible. The first mention of Jezebel is seen in the rebellious, manipulative wife of King Ahab. It was actually this spirit, operating through Queen Jezebel, which had caused over ten million Hebrews, all but seven-thousand faithful souls to bow to Baal. Jezebel caused them to forsake the covenant, destroy the sacred altars and kill the prophets (1 Kings 19:14-18). This one spirit was almost totally responsible for corrupting an entire nation, and this principality is coming full force against the church

Matthew Henry's Commentary calls Jezebel a “zealous idolater, extremely imperious and malicious in her natural temper, addicted to witchcrafts and whoredoms, and every way vicious.”

Today, as predicted there is a rising apostasy in the church, as people turn away from the Word of God. Cults are multiplying rapidly, with the rise of the Prosperity Gospel, this carnal prosperity message is motivated by greed. For them, preaching Jesus is a means of financial gain, Paul rebuked the “Name it and claim it” preachers in the strongest possible terms, 1 Timothy 6:5 NLT, “These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.”

The acceptance of immorality is Satan’s latest attack, forcing churches to participate in same-sex marriages, and ordaining homosexual priests and pastors. Today, the IRS tells pastors what they can and cannot preach. This law aims to censor your sermon if the IRS labels it “political.” One church had a promotion called, “Kiss a fairy (gay person) for Christ.”

The church has always been the conscience of the nation. Throughout history, churches have been recognized as the moral leaders of our society, and Christians have been free to express their religious beliefs. Now, this is challenged. Pastors are censored, and churches are threatened with punishment for sharing and living out their faith.

“Ministers and church leaders are being told who they can or cannot hire and fire, how much they can discipline church members who violate scriptural standards of morality, and even when and where their church can meet. Pastors, lay leaders, and Christian ministry leaders are increasingly being pressured to preach only “politically correct” passages from the Bible, to conform their sermons to culturally accepted norms of what the Church “ought to talk about,” and to keep silent about “political” issues and candidates whose positions have profound moral consequences for the nation and their community.” –karneslegalservices

Many false teachings today start with man rather than with God. Today’s gospel, especially in America, has a very different ring to it; rather than being all about God, it’s all about me. Just as the American way is to make everything bigger and better, the American gospel says that Jesus came to make you into a bigger and better you. That is not the gospel! And Paul says:

Galatians 1:9, “If anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

Jude is telling us that these apostates who corrupt the Word of God, and deny the True and Living God will no longer be able to rebel and blaspheme! In that day Jesus will deal very severely with the apostates. No longer will these false teachers deceive the people.

The only church that will be in existence in the “Last days” will be the false church, the church of the Antichrist and the false prophet. Luke 18:8, “When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Why is this so? It is because Satan is working relentlessly to blind “the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them..” (2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV).

1 Timothy 4:1 NLT, “Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.”

2 Thessalonians 2:3, “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”

2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 MSG, “You’ll also remember that I told you the Anarchist is being held back until just the right time. That doesn’t mean that the spirit of anarchy is not now at work. It is, secretly and underground. But the time will come when the Anarchist will no longer be held back, but will be let loose. But don’t worry. The Master Jesus will be right on his heels and blow him away. The Master appears and—puff!—the Anarchist is out of there.”
